Surfing on the North Coast of Dakar
The north coast of Dakar is the heart of the local surf scene, offering consistent waves all year round. Spots like Ngor Island, Virage, and Yoff provide a variety of beach and reef breaks suitable for all levels. Yoff, home to Malika Surf Camp, is especially known for its accessible waves and relaxed atmosphere, ideal for daily surf sessions.
Best season: During summer you’ll have fun waves in the beach break with a gentle off shore wind almost everyday! This spot is also perfect for begginners all year long.
Surfing on the South Coast of Dakar
The south coast, around the Almadies peninsula, offers more powerful and exposed surf conditions. This area works best with larger Atlantic swells and is popular among intermediate and advanced surfers looking for stronger waves close to the city.
And of course, the most popular and the dream of each surfer: get barreled in Ouakam!
Best months: from November to June! The water can be cold during winter, bring a 4/3 or a good 3/2.
Surfing outside the peninsula of Dakar
Outside the peninsula you can find different kinds of waves: right and left hander, beach breaks or point.
Only 1 hour driving and we are on the Petite Cote, chasing some wave hidden in small villages.
Best months: December to March. Wind can change very fast so better to go very early in the morning!
